ocm update
i quit that shiet
it is a hugely trial-and-error type of process given the enormous variability in skin type, skin condition, available oils, oil ratios, sensitivity or tolerance of said oils, cleansing method and technique, and external factors that affect skin health such as diet, stress, and hormones. i am not completely skeptical of OCM and its mechanisms but i just do not have the patience and time to experiment and get things down just right, not right now. it is very emotionally frustrating to feel uncomfortable with your own fukken face and then exhaust all options, be optimistic and hopeful about one radical last ditch effort only to have it blow up in your face (almost literally).
i apologize that this didnt go as interestingly as i had hoped, but i can’t say it was unexpected. many claim to react poorly to coconut oil, i didn’t until maybe the 3rd or 4th day, and since then it hasn’t stopped. this could be considered a “purging” period but like i said, i don’t have the patience to risk that. it’s unfortunate because the first three days or so my skin was manageably matte and soft.
if i were to try again i would probably use a less comedogenic oil, even though I don’t really “believe” in comedogenicity ratings. but given that my pores now are larger than when i started, i can’t offer any other explanation than that. from what little research i’ve done so far, i’d probably gravitate towards something like sunflower seed oil, as it’s noncomedogenic but also supposedly anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.
i am undergoing some serious damage control at the moment. im going to try to use what i used last year when my skin was flawless, the only changes being my soap and aftershave are gentler (which should work to my favor, as my shaves are very comfortable now, less irritation should mean healthier skin and less breakouts) and im using less moisturizer and adding in like 3 drops of argan oil to seal everything up.
as a side note this “problem” is probably not that big a deal but can you imagine having perfect skin and then having terrible acne at 23 years old as a male?? jeeeez i cant even wear like makeup to hide it, i feel bad about myself and desperate in the way that you feel you have no control over your body, and if you know me i hate that shiet.. i have figured out how to gain or lose weight, which to many is impossible for some reason, so it’s even more frustrating that i can’t handle something as common as acne. i’d rather be 10lb heavier than have acne because then i’d at least know what to do to lose the weight.
ok thats enough bye
My skin got wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse in the past two days. Do I damage control or what ;~;
Going to let it run its course in case it’s a “detox”/”purge” period. >_>Shave of the Day:
Coconut oil preshave and hot shower prep,
Institut Karité Shave Soap,
Face lathered with Parker Silvertip Badger brush,
1xWTG and 1xXTG pass with Merkur 34C and Gillette 7OClock blade,
Post shave cold water rinse and alum block,
Institut Karité aftershave balm with 1 drop each of sweet almond and jojoba oil (never again)
YSL L’Homme…
Best shave in a while - only required two passes for closeness with a very comfortable shave, thanks to the extra gentle Institut Karité soap. Definitely recommend it if you have sensitive skin.
Q:for the OCM you're using castor oil with the coconut oil too, no? what's your ratio?
No, I’m sticking to 100% organic unrefined cold pressed virgin coconut oil. I’ve read that it’s comedogenic for many but I have plenty on hand and saw good results in the first three days, if anything, it might be a little too drying. I tried mixing in like 60% coconut 20% jojoba and 20% sweet almond oil last night and woke up with five new angry whiteheads. I think it’s the jojoba.
So yeah, no castor oil, I’m trying to keep this as minimalist as I can.
What works for you?
